What We Do
What is Feel Better Training (FBT)? How are we different from other gyms and a market of one?
FBT bridges the gap between health care and fitness. Have you ever wondered why a doctor doesn’t typically refer patients to a specific gym or trainer but yet reminds most of them they need to exercise and eat healthy? It’s because they don’t have a fitness professional they trust. Someone they would send their Mom or sister or brother or best friend to.
Bottom line, the fitness industry isn’t holding up their end of the bargain. They have their specific method they love. Think CrossFit or boot camp group classes, Pilates, 24/7 gyms for the super self motivated, yoga, etc…. and they expect everyone else to love what they do and get results from it.
What happens to the majority of other people though:
a) who that particular style of fitness doesn’t work for
b) have chronic pain and haven’t solved it from a doctor's visit and/or physical therapy
c) yet still would benefit GREATLY from getting healthy, losing some weight, adding lean muscle, building cardiovascular endurance, learning how to eat healthier, and manage their stress better? Read: EVERYONE!!!
We assess NOT guess at FBT using four stages to ensure the training, education, and self development is laser focused on the individual. These four stages are outlined below:
1) Assess 2) Develop 3) Ascend 4) Freedom
ASSESS PHASE
Purpose: Uncover history, needs, goals, movement patterns, ranges of motion, & skill level.
Process: Joint-by-joint movement screen, custom competency and tolerance tests, & interviews.
Payoff: Clarity on where you are and where you want to go.
Duration: 1-3 weeks, revisited as needed
DEVELOP PHASE
Purpose: Exhibit confidence, competence, and autonomy in base movements and begin corrective work.
Process: Custom 1:1 in-person training at a specific cadence.
Payoff: Developed confidence and competence, an understanding around application of intensity and how to communicate with your coach.
Duration: 6-20 weeks
ASCEND PHASE
Purpose: Express autonomy with base movements and enhance a foundation of a more resilient mind and body.
Process: Proper dosing of custom programming and/or remote training, 1:1 in-person training, small group training if that’s a preference, and consultations.
Payoff: Gained autonomy in base movements, elevated your skills, and are working on mastering the application of intensity.
Duration: 26-52 weeks
FREEDOM PHASE
Purpose: Apply learned skills to live a pain-free and active life.
Process: Continuation of previous with added guidance from your coach to safely pursue and progress activities outside of the gym.
Payoff: Able to reclaim your active life safely and confidently.
Duration: Ongoing
What about the people who aren’t a good fit for FBT? We find that out during the consultation and assessment phase and refer out to the other health/fitness professionals if that’s a better option for their goals.
